Until early 2009, the project was mostly unmaintained and the quality slowly decreased, frustrating many Buildroot users. Fortunately, since early 2009, Peter Korsgaard took over the maintainership of Buildroot, and the project has considerably evolved since then : stable releases are published every three months, the user and developer community has grown significantly, the existing features have been cleaned up, many other new features have been added, the project is no longer uClibc-specific and the quality has been vastly improved. Buildroot now offers a nice, simple and efficient mechanism to build small to medium sized embedded Linux systems, such as the ones found in many industrial systems or highly dedicated systems. Many users are amazed about how easy it is to get started with Buildroot, especially compared to other build systems. This presentation will show how Buildroot can be used to build embedded Linux systems, highlighting the new features and improvements made over the last few years, and detailing how the simplicity of Buildroot allows you to focus on developing the applications for your system. A quick overview of the future Buildroot developments will also be provided.
Biographie

Thomas Petazzoni is an embedded Linux engineer and trainer at Free Electrons since 2008. With more than 900 patches merged into Buildroot since early 2009, he is the second most important contributor to the project, after the Buildroot maintainer himself. Thomas has also helped many Free Electrons customers in using Buildroot for various industrial products.

Computer Assisted Medical Intervention (CAMI par la suite) est un domaine multi-disciplinaire complexe. Il exige, par exemple, des modèles spécifiques aux patients construits à partir de l’analyse et la reconstruction d’images médicales, le recalage d’image ou de maillages pour des simulations efficaces et dignes de confiance. Les recherche CAMI nécessite la collaboration d’experts dans plusieurs domaines aussi divers que la médecine, l’informatique, les mathématiques, l’instrumentation, traitement du signal, mécanique, modélisation, automatique, optique, etc

CamiTK [1] est un cadre modulaire spécifique qui aide les chercheurs et les cliniciens afin de collaborer et de prototyper des applications CAMI en utilisant les meilleures connaissances et savoir-faire durant toutes les étapes nécessaires. CamiTK est un projet open-source, multi-plateforme et générique écrit en C++ qui peut gérer les images médicales, des navigations chirurgicales et des simulations biomedicales.

La conception générale de CamiTK est inspiré par le génie logiciel à base de composants (CBSE). Au lieu de construire une application en ajoutant des fonctionnalités sur le code existant, CBSE a l’intention de construire un logiciel en intégrant, arrangeant ou assemblant de composants logiciels pré-compilés. CamiTK partage les principes directeurs de CBSE :

  • Réutiliser et ne pas réinventer la roue,
  • Assembler des modules et des composants pré-construits au lieu d’ajouter du code en cas de besoin.

Céline Fouard est maître de conférences à l’Université de Grenoble et chercheur au laboratoire TIMC-IMAG, dans la GMCAO (Cami) équipe. Additionally, disabling features in software forces users to buy higher priced products or keeps them locked into using accessories from a single company. The Apertus project is taking a different approach. It is developing a high-tech cinema camera without any secrets or restrictions ! Knowledge is actively shared and everybody is encouraged to improve the camera. The Apertus project supports FLOSS and open hardware. Together with artists and filmmakers it is developing an open camera filmmakers will love to use. This talk will introduce Appertus and the technology used, including sample footage of projects shot with Apertus.

OpenStack is a collaborative software project designed to create freely available code, badly needed standards, and common ground for the benefit of both cloud providers and cloud users. In the world of private clouds and public clouds there are many commercial and open source solutions. However, because of a gradual move to a low cost generic public cloud, many commercial providers are offering public cloud solutions based on OpenStack. In fact, some of the biggest contributors to the OpenStack project are from commercial cloud vendors. This presentation outlines why the media industry is interested in virtualisation and cloud, the components of OpenStack and a brief description on what is needed to create a private cloud using the OpenStack software.

David Butler is a Senior Technologist, working in the Media Network Integration Lab at BBC Research and Development on network technology, storage performance and cloud technology. During his 10 years working at the BBC, he has worked on advanced digital broadcast projects, technologies for wireless production, network infrastructure, storage performance and cloud technologies.

OpenStack is a collaborative software project designed to create freely available code, badly needed standards, and common ground for the benefit of both cloud providers and cloud users. In the world of private clouds and public clouds there are many commercial and open source solutions. However, because of a gradual move to a low cost generic public cloud, many commercial providers are offering public cloud solutions based on OpenStack. In fact, some of the biggest contributors to the OpenStack project are from commercial cloud vendors. This presentation outlines why the media industry is interested in virtualisation and cloud, the components of OpenStack and a brief description on what is needed to create a private cloud using the OpenStack software.
Biographie

David Butler is a Senior Technologist, working in the Media Network Integration Lab at BBC Research and Development on network technology, storage performance and cloud technology. During his 10 years working at the BBC, he has worked on advanced digital broadcast projects, technologies for wireless production, network infrastructure, storage performance and cloud technologies.
